FAQs
Flight Status

While making a scheduling decision is important, it’s only part of the shipping equation. Without visibility into a shipment’s status, the opportunity to turn a problem shipment into a successful shipment dramatically decreases. To keep costs in check and keep customers happy, you need for your systems to integrate flight status into the shipping process, and you need to be proactively notified when certain events occur.

With Pathfinder-XML, you can integrate a highly productive flight status application into your existing system. Pathfinder-XML secures flight status information from two sources:
  • FAA flight status - For when the pilot is at the controls of the airplane
  • GDS flight status - For when the airlines are the source of status information
Pathfinder-XML exposes FAA based and GDS supplied flight status as a set of Web Services that can be called independently or in conjunction with one another to provide the most comprehensive information available for a given flight.

The FAA flight status Web service provides the following information:
  • Departure and arrival airports
  • Departure times (scheduled, estimated and actual)
  • Arrival times (scheduled, estimated and actual)
  • Runway time
  • Terminal and Gate
  • Baggage claim
The GDS flight status Web Service returns the following information:
  • Departure and arrival airports
  • Departure times (scheduled, estimated and actual)
  • Arrival times (scheduled, estimated and actual)
Get more from Flight Status through Event Notification
The Pathfinder Notification Rules Engine provides an effective method for monitoring flight status. Pathfinder provides a mechanism to set trigger conditions that will automatically send messages based on specific events and thresholds, thereby eliminating the time-consuming and often ineffective approach of manual tracking. Simply create a notification rule using our Web interface or send an API message along with customized triggering conditions to enable notification services.

Our flight status notification services enable you to:
  • Set precise flight status notification triggering conditions with our advanced notification rules editor
  • Specify delivery method including e-mail, pager or a Web Services message (SOAP or XML/HTTP) sent directly to your software system
  • Long and short message formats supported
  • Web-based management GUI or via the API
  • Web-based notification history view
